On Korea’s Taean Peninsula - which is famous for its fresh food - farms, mountains and the sea come unforgettably. Harvests from the land and sea provide a bounty of fresh, varied seafood and top-quality vegetables. Many Korean chefs say these vegetables are the highest quality in all of Korea.

The tour takes you out into the Taean Peninsula to visit a farmer's restaurant, a local market, a stunning mudflat, and the beautiful local tree gardens. This full-day tour to the heartland of Korean cuisine includes lunch and an unbelievably fresh seafood dinner. It’s a cultural and culinary experience you’ll never forget.

‘m months late posting a review of the Tuscany of Korea tour but our memories of it are still so vivid and impressionable. I work in the culinary industry in the U.S. and really wanted to experience a part of Korea I never had before (I’m Korean American and I’ve visited Korea many times before….just never to the TaeAn peninsula). Despite the time of year not being ideal (middle of January!), Veronica – the owner of GastroTour and our tour guide – was so quick to accommodate and her enthusiasm in taking us around in freezing temperatures never waivered.

She picked us up from our airbnb, greeting us with a bag of delicious mandarins, and drove us out of the chaotic scenes of Seoul rush hour and closer to the beautiful coastal landscape of TaeAn. Our first stop was at a local market in Seosan where we picked out our “breakfast” – we had the most delicious raw abalone, “hwe” (raw fish), and a spicy fish soup. We visited a sea mud salt farm and a rice syrup producer – – snow intermittently fell, making for quite an adventure, and Veronica was even so thoughtful in improvising. For example, she stopped at a small roadside vendor to pick up roasted sweet potatoes and we had a little “snack” of kal guk su that was so nourishing to eat when it was so cold! Before driving back to Seoul, Veronica filled our bellies with ganjang gejang ( fermented raw crab, local specialty)… there was just dish after dish of deliciousness. I thought I had died and went to seafood heaven! 😀

Thank you Veronica & Gastro Tour for everything….there are a lot of gimmicky and run of the mill tours out there, but what I loved about Gastro Tour is you experience food culture and traditions from the inside. We will call upon you again next time we are in Korea & we hope other visitors to Seoul will do the same!
